Funding Opportunity to Increase Participation in Afterschool and Summer Nutrition Programs
As part of its national strategy to end childhood hunger, Share Our Strength is planning to provide funding support to nonprofit organizations that are working to increase the number of children that have access to and consume nutritious afterschool and summer meals. Share Our Strength is primarily interested in increasing participation in child food and nutrition programs that utilize USDA-reimbursement through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), National School Lunch Program (NSLP), or Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
Organizations that increase participation in these programs through advocacy and outreach efforts are also eligible to apply.
Grants will only be awarded to nonprofit 501(c) (3) organizations, schools with a valid NCES code, or local government entities that work to ensure children have access to afterschool and summer meal programs. Examples of programs to be funded include schools, recreation centers, afterschool sites, faith-based institutions that are implementing summer and/or afterschool programs, Kids Café’s and similar programs.
Project Timeline
Funds awarded through this RFP will support afterschool and summer meals programs that fall within the 2010 school year.
Application Guidelines
Share Our Strength will be accepting grant applications from June 1st - September 30, 2009.
Grant awards made through Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale® and this request for proposals typically fall within the range of $1,000 to $10,000.
